Trans-Andean railroad, an impressive piece of engineering
The most significant complication faced by the construction of this Trans-Andean railroad was the Devil’s Nose, a mountain with almost perpendicular walls. A zigzag railroad was built that climbs more than 550 yards in less than 7 miles with steep ascents and descents. Alausi, Ecuador. Photo submitted by Dayana Sanchez.
